Yes. During the cold weather months, frost can accumulate on the outdoor coil. This will cause the heat pump to go into a Defrost Cycle anywhere from 1-10 minutes, depending on the amount of ice on the coil. The system will return to the heating mode once the ice is gone.
Yes, this is normal. A heat pump generally produces air that is 80°, which is considered warm, and will heat the house evenly. However, 80° may feel cool to your hand, which is usually closer to 90°.
All Heat Pumps in northern climates (below 35 degrees) need a supplemental heating source. Usually this is in the form of electric resistance heating – at the indoor unit. This is an all-electric Heat Pump, but it could also be a gas. The supplemental heat is also referred to as second-stage or back-up heating, with first-stage being the Heat Pump only. Emergency Heat is when you use your supplemental heat (2nd stage) by itself, without the use of your heat pump (1st stage heat).
Covering the unit is not necessary, especially if you have a heat pump that runs all year long. If the unit is covered and begins to run, it is possible for the unit to become damaged.
Try setting your humidistat to 35% when you first start your humidifier each heating season. After two days, if it still feels dry, turn it up.
No. Closing the registers will decrease the systems’ airflow and efficiency. Every system is designed to cool a certain number of square feet. By closing registers & doors in certain rooms, you disrupt the airflow and cause your air conditioning system to work harder to distribute air to other areas of your home. Your system will work harder, to cool less space, making it cycle more and become less efficient.
Units are now manufactured with an Automatic Pilot Light, you no longer have to light it yourself if the pilot went out.
Every Goodman, Amana or Lennox unit comes with a 10 year parts warranty from the manufacturer and a 1 year Labor warranty from Fayette Heating & Air. You may also elect to extend your Labor Warranty up to 10 years within the first year of having the unit. When the equipment is delivered to our shop the information is entered into the system and the warranty is registered for you. You can expect your warranty information packet to arrive in the mail within two weeks. If you have any other questions about your warranty, please contact us at 859-695-6816.
