The heat pump is an outdoor unit. It serves a dual purpose. In summer, rather than generate cool air, it literally pumps warm air out of your home. In winter, it reverses the process and pumps warm air inside. The heat pump operates on electricity. The cooled air is circulated by the blower on your indoor air handler or furnace.
