The gas furnace is an indoor unit that burns fossil fuel to heat air, then circulates it throughout your home. The gas furnace also uses electricity to operate the fan. Furnaces can also be "direct vented" to use outside air for the combustion process rather than using air for which you have already paid to heat. A gas furnace can be paired with an outside air conditioner. Air is cooled by the air conditioner, then circulated by the fans on the furnace. A gas furnace can also be matched with an outside heat pump. The benefit is that during mild winter temperatures the heat pump pulls warm air from the outside to warm your home without burning gas. When temperatures drop, the furnace then burns gas to add the heat required for comfort. One of the first things to consider when purchasing a gas furnace is its efficiency. Our Comfort Advisors can help you select a furnace that meets your comfort needs.
